How do you structure your days, and what helps you get in the zone?
I start my day by walking my dog and that always puts me in a good mood… rain or sun! Not everyday I feel a creative urge to design, it more comes in waves. One week I might be sketching down inspiration and working on my prints and the next week I might be consumed with boring admin jobs. However when I am feeling creative I love to put some relaxing music on, and sit by the window so I can look out onto all the trees.
How has your style evolved since you moved to Whistler?
I have explored a lot of art styles since living in Whistler. However, one main theme that has been in all my art styles is colour. I love colour…It simply makes me smile! I used to paint in a much more abstract way and allowed the colour to really flow across the canvas, however now I focus the colour on the main elements of my designs. For example the flowers or insects in my prints.
What is the greatest influence on your art?
Nature and wildlife! For me there is nothing more inspiring than looking to nature for inspiration. There are endless colour, textures, shapes and forms in nature and no matter how often you study something or visit somewhere you always see something new.
What direction do you hope to move towards with your work?
I hope to continue designing different prints of local places I have visited and incorporating new wildflowers in my design. I love working on branding, so if the opportunity to collaborate with a company came along I'd love to do that. So much has changed with my art style over the past 6 months, so I’m just excited to follow that energy and see where it takes me.
