Greetings from the PNW!
meet the founder
I discovered the world of matcha around the same time I discovered my Japanese roots. My great-grandmother was from Kyushu, an island in southern Japan. Matcha led me into the powerful traditions of Japanese tea culture, its rituals having a profound influence on my life. I aim to share these with our modern world through the simple practice of making matcha, in addition to sourcing with my personal values around living and consuming consciously.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Matcha?
Matcha comes from the same ta leaves as green and black tea, but is produced differently. Tencha leaves grown for matcha are shade grown for a few weeks bfefore harest to enhance its flavor, colour, and nutritional profile. The leaves are then ground into a fine powder using traditional or modern methods. Matcha is enjoyed by whisking the powder into a beautiful froth.
How do i drink matcha?
When sourcing for our collection, we taste test the matcha plain. We believe that high quality matcha should be able to be enjoyed on its own, and that any additions should only be used to enhance your matcha, not cover up the taste.
Matcha is very versatile. Here is a basic recipe to get you started on figuring out how you like to enjoy it!
1. Sift 2G of matcha into a chawan (tea bowl)
2. Pour in 2 ounces of 80°C water
3. Whisk vigorously until frothy
4. Pour matcha into your favorite tea cup
5. Add 4-6 ounces of water or milk of choice
what is the shelf life?
Unopened Matcha
When stored in a cool dark place and kept sealed, matcha can last up to 12 months. However, for the best flavor, it's recommended to consume it within the first 6 months.
Opened Matcha
Once opened, matcha is exposed to air and light, which can degrade its quality over time. Try to consume it within 2-4 months for optimal flavor. Proper storage in an airtight container in a cool, dark place helps extend its shelf life. Always check for signs of spoilage, such as an off smell or unusual color changes. Storing matcha away from heat, light, moisture, and strong odors helps preserve its freshness.
is there caffeine?
A standard serving of matcha (about 1 teaspoon of powder) contains approximately 30 to 70 milligrams of caffeine (coffee contains close to 100mg.)
what does ceremonial mean?
There's a lot of confusion in the matcha marketing world. Matcha labelled as "ceremonial" should be from the freshest leaves (first harvest) and be stone ground. A matcha of this standard is intended for that purpose exactly, ceremony. Delicious enough to be enjoyed without anything except a little water.
